Here are the answers to the most frequent Chromebook support questions.
Managed Chromebooks in a School
How do I run the app on a Chromebook?
To run Ultimate Phonics on a Chromebook, use the Android app.
Most Chromebooks, but not all, support Android apps from the Google Play store. To find out if your Chromebook supports Android, and to activate Google Play, follow these steps:
- Turn your Chromebook on and log in.
- At the bottom right of the screen, select the time.
- Select the Settings cog.
- In the "Google Play Store" section, next to "Install apps and games from Google Play on your Chromebook," select Turn on. If you can’t find this option, your Chromebook doesn't work with Android apps.
After the Google Play store is activated on your Chromebook, go into Google Play and search for "Ultimate Phonics". Then install the free Ultimate Phonics Reading App.
How do I run the app on Chromebooks managed by a school?
For Chromebooks managed by Google Workspace for Education or similar, you will use the special Ultimate Phonics School Version provided as a private app in your school's Managed Google Play.
How do I get access to the School Version for my Chromebooks?
To provide access to the Ultimate Phonics School Version, we make it available as a private app inside your school's Managed Google Play store.
To do this we need your school's Organization ID. Your IT administrator can find the ID in Managed Google Play under Admin settings.
Here is a Google Support article with a more in-depth explanation (read the section under "Allow 3rd party developer publishing"):
How is the School Version different from other versions?
The School Version is identical to the Ultimate Phonics Full Version. It includes all of the levels and lessons and there are no in-app purchases.
The only difference is that the School Version is published as a private app to your school's Organization ID. This gives your school's IT administrator access to the app in their Managed Google Play store.
